Giving

Reader, I must tell you – we live in interesting times. And the times are only going to get worse.

There are bad times coming.

Some of you are going to lose family. Some of you will lose friends. Many of you will lose your jobs. Almost all of you will lose the lives of today, and the lies you tell to continue living them. Somehow, somewhere, you will lose something.

And yet, there are people who will lose everything.

These people are not lies. They are the truths that make your life possible.

So today, while you still have something left to give, give. Tomorrow, when you have lesser than you do today, you will be very happy that you did.

Give to your four-legged friends on the street; mute and helpless, yet suffering the same sorrows as people.

Give to the frontline workers who stock your supplies and clean your streets.

Give to the restaurant workers who fill your stomach and feed your soul.

Give to the recently unemployed, so you may see the future in the eye and call it by its name.

Give to the homeless and the hungry, for they are living your life – on the other side of a coin toss of fate, and an accident of birth.

Give to the medical professionals who keep you and yours alive.

Give to those like yourself who would give, but are waiting for that friendly push.

Give your something, for it may be someone’s everything. Just give.

Reader, if you are a believer, remember that service to your fellow man is service to god. And if you aren’t, give still – your fellow man is the only god you will ever have.
